Volunteer

Help a grieving child learn, connect, share & grow

Volunteers are a crucial part of our Stepping Stones Grief Support Program. If you have a heart for helping others in their time of need, and an interest in learning how to support a grieving child or teen throughout their journey, then a volunteer opportunity with Stepping Stones might be a great fit for you! Volunteering is also a great way to learn a new skill set and become more connected to others in your community.

Volunteers are needed throughout the year for a variety of programs and events. Take a look at some of the volunteer opportunities we offer:

Buddies

Buddies are individuals who love working with children & are passionate about supporting a child through challenging times. Buddies help children to navigate camp by attending workshops &  providing emotional support by listening, modeling and sharing as appropriate. Buddies walk alongside their camper for an unforgettable weekend at the beach. No professional background in counseling or grief support is required, as we will provide all the training you need. “There was a camper present for whom I was a buddy at the last weekend session. He ran up to me, remembered my name, greeted me with a hug and fist bump and was beaming. This meant a lot to me, but also tells me the impact camp and, to a lesser extent, I had on him. I do recall at the closing ceremonies for that weekend he grabbed my hand and held on. Very moving and the experience seemed to mean something to him too.”

Facilitators

Facilitators co-lead our Stepping Stones Grief Support Programs. They create safe & fun environments for children & teens to feel comfortable to connect, share & grow with others. All sessions are curriculum based & age developmentally appropriate. Bridges provides facilitators  all the needed training, curriculum, supplies & snacks for all activities. A professional background or training in counseling, social work, or grief support is required.  Learn more about Shannon’s Hope Camp or Sand Dollar Club here or get started.

“I started doing the camp and decided I want to do it for the rest of my life.”

Logistical Support

Logistical volunteers help ensure events & programs run smoothly &  without a hitch by assisting with the setup and break down of events, as well as, tasks related to registration and administration. While our logistical volunteers do not directly support the children & teens, their commitment & dedication is vital to ensure that our program is a success.  Learn more about Stepping Stones here or get started.

This camp was well planned and well executed! Thank you to the staff and all volunteers behind the scenes who made everything run so smoothly.”
