Lunch-Time Luminary Event for Children’s Grief Awareness Month
November is Children’s Grief Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of supporting children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. At Bridges of Hope, we invite your school to participate in a special Lunch-Time Luminary Event, giving students the opportunity to honor loved ones and reflect in a safe, supportive space.
During this event, students will:
- Decorate a luminary bag using provided materials
- Light a candle inside the bag as a tribute to someone they’ve lost
- Experience connection and reflection with classmates
We provide everything you need:
- White luminary bags
- Tea lights (battery-operated for safety)
- Coloring utensils
- A volunteer facilitator to support students during lunch
This activity can be offered to all students, whether your school has a Sand Dollar Club or not. In the past, this event has been incredibly meaningful for students—helping them process grief, honor memories, and feel seen and supported by their school community.
